Our congregation began in 1950, and was intentionally planted here in Westworth Village in 1952. We are a church that values worshipping God, fellowshipping one another, and serving God by serving people. Visitors share with us that they see us as a friendly congregation, helping new people feel welcome and seeing strong relationships between members of all ages. We are a medium-sized church, and we think doing something for God is one of the best ways to honor Him.
We strive to build healthy lives by having a healthy, active faith in God. We invite you to join us!
Mission of the Westworth Church of Christ
Loving God- Worshipping
Key verse: “And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” Luke 4:8, ESV
A key starting point for believers is worshipping God together. It is a time in which love and good works are encouraged (Hebrews 10:24). It is a time in which we lift praise to God who deserves it. It is a time when visitors have their first experiences with the congregation, and possibly with God Himself.
We want to make our best effort to be at our local church services. We want everyone present to be actively involved in worship of God. We want to invite our friends and neighbors to experience simple worship of God together with us.
Loving Neighbors- Fellowshipping
Key verse: “We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing”. 2 Thessalonians 1:3, ESV
A deeper feeling of connection for believers is spending time in fellowship with one another. As our faith in God grows, we will want to become closer and closer to people in the body of Christ. Fellowship is the time we spend growing healthy spiritual friendships with other believers that sustain us in difficult times.
We want to make our best effort to go beyond attending church services and spend time with each other. We want to encourage and grow our small group ministry, as we have seen friendships grow as people meet together over time. We want to encourage members to eat together, to come to our extra activities, and find ways to get to know others better within this body of Christ.
Loving Ourselves- Serving
Key verse: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45, ESV
The deepest spiritual blessing for believers is to move from being served to actively serving others as Jesus did. While there are times in which we need help from others, the time we spend serving others is one of the greatest blessings we can have.
We want to make our best effort to increase serving of others. We want people to be close to one another in Christ and want to do for others rather than for ourselves. We want to improve the focus of our serving ministries and increase member involvement.
We want all of our members to find the personal blessing of serving others.
Teaching Children
Here at Westworth, we believe strongly in teaching and living out for our children the principles of Scripture. We use a parent/grandparent-led model of direct instruction for our children. Here are some of our activities in support of this:
· Some of our families with children meet as a group every other Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. to fellowship and learn how to teach more effectively. On the opposite Wednesday night, families are encouraged to have a devotional time in their own home.
· We also support the teaching of children by including a Bible Story in each Sunday morning service.
· We also offer a Young Families’ Event every Second Saturday night for food and fellowship.
We believe that this empowers parents and grandparents to lead the on-going spiritual instruction of their children.
